I finally able to visit the the Underpass Park in Toronto yesterday. I’ve read and heard about this before but was not really interested until a friend who had been there last weekend told me about it, like it’s the coolest thing in this city. There was a little party going on when he was there, complete with a set of DJs playing.
The Underpass Park is literally under the Gardiner Expressway on the eastern side of the city. It started as a skate park until somebody thought of making it not just a skater’s playground but also a hub for artists to showcase their creative juices through their murals on the pillars of the expressway.
It also has a basketball courts and childrens’ playground. This summer, this space will be a host to the Live Arts Festival which will welcome musical performances, sports, flash mobs, etc.

Take the subway to King Station. Then, get on the 504 or 501 streetcar Eastbound. Get off at River Street. Go south on River and you’ll see the Gardiner Expressway. You can’t miss it!
