I am not a theme park person. But, if the ticket is offered free, why not go, right? And you know, I’ve never been to an “eco-archaeological theme park” before, so Xcaret in Riviera Maya in Mexico was my first one. This is a 250-acre theme park that brings you from jungle to sea.
How to go there. If you’re buying your ticket in one of the hotels in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Riviera Maya, transport is already included. If not, you can either hire an Uber or take a public transport called “shared taxi/van.” Ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance of Xcaret, along the national highway. And from there, you can walk.
How to Maximize Your Time at Xcaret. Get a brochure/map of the park right after you bought the ticket. Sit down and talk about it with your companions on what to do and see first and last. Every free activities (included in your ticket) here are worth trying. Take note that there are paid activities here. Before buying the ticket, inquire what are included (especially the lunch buffet) and excluded. Take note of the time and places of the live performances you want to see.
If your purpose to go here is to relax, then, don’t do too many activities. Relax at the beach or get cosy in a hammock with your favourite book.
Sunblock. Bring a chemical-free sunblock. While on the bus, the conductor is going to go around and check your sun lotion. If you don’t have one, they’re going to sell you one. According to them, Xcaret management is serious in taking care of the environment. The chemicals could damage sea life.
Not to miss. There’s one thing I don’t want you to miss: the grand show at the end of the day. It’s called Mexico Spectacular Show. It’s a fabulous display of cultural dance and music you’ve never seen in your life. Be there 30 minutes before it begins to get the best seat in the house.
Here are few of the things we did at Xcaret in Riviera Maya.
Get a life jacket – even if you’re a swimmer. It’s a long river where some parts are dark.
I mean, pose and take a photo for your Instagram. 😀
The fins and face mask with snorkel are included in your ticket. There are other water sports to enjoy, too. Mostly are paid, like scuba diving and walking under the sea.
Take a nap or with a book.
Even if you’re bald. 😉
It’s an interesting window to how Mexicans treat their dead.
Although it’s kinda fake but still… You can even attend a Mayan ritual. Be there 10 minutes before it starts.
Know parrot talk? You could be best friends with these two.
Like these flamingos.
And swim. The inviting turquoise water beckons as soon as it sees you.
It would be the best show you’d ever see. It you don’t enjoy it, call me a liar! 😀
You can choose from these three places: Cancun, Playa del carmen and Riviera Maya. Find the place that fits your budget – from hostels to hotels.
