Though the room costs 30CUC and not really in my backpacker’s budget, I still chose it for its BEST location in Havana. Not to mention the fun time I had there. It’s a minute walk to Hotel Inglaterra, Parque Central, and Nacional Capitol. It’s walking distance to everything you want to see in Havana Vieja. Bars, restaurants and ATM machines are just within five minutes walk.

Managed by the fabulous Aleido, this gay and straight-friendly casa has been hosting visitors for 28 years. It has so much character where the things you see inside are conversational pieces. Even before selfie was invented, Aleido has already filled the rooms of his casa with colorful portraits of his happy life by laminating them into giant frames. The casa itself is a mesh mash of colors from bold orange to pink to blue and yellow. You are, literally, living in the rainbow!
The 11 rooms are themed in colors of the rainbow. Pick your favorite color and sleep like you glow in the dark. LOL…
In the evening, when you don’t have plans, join Aleido and his handsome (caliente) friends in this kitchen where they play table games, talk about anything, tease each other and—-if you’re lucky, a KTV showdown is in progress. Aleido, the self-proclaimed Diana Ross (it’s the hair) of Cuba, will belt out his signature songs. If you feel like going out, you can ask some of his friends to go with you, as long as you pay for them in bars. Most of them can’t afford to have a nightlife but they’ll show you a good time, the Havana way. It’s better to go with them because they are friends of your host—and they’ll surely take care of you. Give them a tip at the end of the night. They’ll appreciate it.
To reach the terrace, you have to go up the 50-step spiral staircase. In here, you’ll see some of the well-known buildings, including the dome of the Nacional Capitol.
Facilities:
Each room has an aircon, TV, private bathroom, closet with hangers, safe deposit box, and refrigerator in some rooms. You can have a DVD player if you request it. Visitors can use the washing machine for free.
Visitor policy: Of course, you can bring your visitor! Just make sure he/she has an ID. They’ll ask for it. It’s required by law and it’s for your own safety, too.

The red room is the Presidential suite room. It has its own balcony, a private dining room, living room, a giant aircon, a hundred-year-old closet with a safe box deposit for your important stuff.
They gave me the white room because, I think, I am a very pure, virgin-looking guest. LOL… And when all the lights are off, the neon galaxy of stars (and planets) patterned above my bed shine like I’m seeing space from the four corners of my room.

Getting there: The Gayest and the Most Straight-friendly Casa in Havana
If you are getting off at the Viazul bus station, take a taxi to Hotel Inglaterra (5CUC). Facing the hotel, take the street on the left side and walk for 30-45 seconds. You’ll find the building on your right. The building’s number is quite small, so make sure you don’t miss it.
HOTELS IN HAVANA
If you can afford a hotel, try Hotel National or Hotel Inglaterra. These two are the nicest ones in the city.
