You can spot the snake charmers of Marrakesh at Place de Jemaa El-Efna. There are many of them there, enchanting tourists to take a look at what their poisonous snakes can do. Be discreet in taking photos if you don’t want to give them a tip. Once they see your camera taking aim at them, they’d quickly come to you to collect a tip. If you run, they’ll chase you – and I’m kidding you not! Worse, they’d bring the snakes to you and convince you to take a picture of the hissing animals around your shoulders – for more tips, of course! I gave them $1.5 because they won’t take $1. 😀
I was told by a Moroccan friend of mine that these snakes aren’t anymore poisonous. The charmers took their poison out for their safety and for everyone. Even if that’s true, I still won’t put them around my shoulders for a photo op. That’s just so wrong. Period.
These snake charmers of Marrakesh make a living out of playing a terrible sound that is not charming at all. 😀
