Pont des Amours or Lover’s Bridge is an iron bridge at the threshold of Lac de Annecy.
From the look of it, this is just an ordinary bridge in a charming town in France, called Annecy.
The first bridge was made of wood and it was built to give people a good view of the wonderful Annecy Lake. It was later rebuilt with iron by Charles Galletto.
And what a view it is!
Boats moored on the banks and arched trees on the side add a romantic setting for whoever passes by. The bridge connects the European Gardens and Paquier Esplanade.
This bridge, however, has a dark past – it used to be a rendezvous for prostitutes.
But today, the bridge is a rendezvous for lovers. Legend has it that whoever you kiss in the middle of this bridge, you will stay together for life! Yes, forever!
So, be careful who you kiss on this bridge because there’s no turning back! Just make sure he’s for keeps and she’s the one. 😉
Travel itinerary: Annecy in One Day
The town of Annecy is actually nearer from Geneva than from Lyon. It’s a 30-minute ride from Geneva and almost two hours ride from Lyon. You can either take a train or take a blabla car. The latter is cheaper, of course.
If you are visiting Lyon, it would be worth it to go on a trip to Annecy for a day. There are a couple of trains that stop here. If you want to stay here for a night, and got some money to spare, staying at fabulous boutique hotels in the city and around the lake would be great! You can book thru Booking.com, TripAdvisor, and Expedia.
