I did the Quarry Rock Hiking Trail yesterday for the first time. It was a beautiful day – and it’s a weekend, too! That means that hiking trails near Vancouver (reachable via public transport) were, as expected, crowded.

And I survived. Halelu! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Directions: Vancouver to Deep Cove by Bus

Start from the Waterfront Metro Station. Find the way to the water taxi / ferry that will take you to Lonsdale Quay. There’s a ferry every less than fifteen minutes, so you don’t have to wait long. When you get off at Lonsdale Quay, take the 239 bus that goes to Phibbs Exchange bus loop or Capilano University. Get off at Phibbs Exchange bus loop and transfer to bus 211 or 212. The last stop is at Deep Cove.

Once you arrive, follow most of the crowd or find a sign that points you to the Quarry Rock trail. This trip should take around 40-50 minutes.

Pet-friendly Trail

Right at the entrance of the trail, dog owners are reminded to leash their pets. However, this rule isn’t really fully enforced. πŸ˜€ I’d say that 95% of the dogs I’ve met yesterday were unleashed. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ The good news is that – they were all good dogs. πŸ˜‰

The Quarry Rock Hiking Trail

The entrance to the trail is kinda hidden among the residential houses. Be aware and follow the signs.

Unlike some trails I’ve been to that starts flat, this trail begins with an ascent right away.

I’d say that this hike is for intermediate level. However, I saw some adults who were holding on to their hiking poles.

The wooden bridges are well-built.

And the wooden stairs are wonderfully-structured.

The sounds of the streaming creek reverberate through the forest and are soothing to the weary hikers.

This trail is not your regular trail that constantly goes up. There are times when you have to gown, too.

Hikers go up and down the stairs and trails, passing through the exposed roots of the evergreens.

Obviously, Vancouver’s skyline is seen from here on a very nice day!

And oh, this is the crowd when I arrived around 4:00 in the afternoon.

Don’t miss the Other Rock!

Yep, there’s another rock in the area where you should go if a crowded place is not your thing.

It’s just a few steps from the Quarry Rock. Look up and find the electrical tower. πŸ˜‰ Follow the trail that would lead you up there.

Though the view is not as spectacular as the other one, it’s very peaceful here. You will be far from the maddening crowd. πŸ˜‰

Where to Stay in Vancouver

For budget travelers, theΒ HI Vancouver Central, and theΒ Same Sun HostelΒ are good ones to stay for their downtown location. But of course, if you can afford for aΒ medium-priced or luxury accommodation, then, book it because you deserve it!
