Moraine Lake – Is This the World’s Most Beautiful Lake?
Moraine Lake gives you the goosebumps you’ve never expected to feel. That’s what I felt right in front of the massive mountain peaks, and I think I had goosebumps the whole time I was there. This is one natural attraction that makes you feel so tiny against the awe-inspiring beauty of the Canadian Rockies. My gawd, the experience of seeing this marvel still lingers in my mind – even three years later.

The World’s Most Beautiful Parking Lot
Before I show you everything, let me show you where we parked. Please tell me if you agree that this is the world’s most beautiful parking lot! Have you ever seen a parking space more beautiful than this?

I’ve been to the Grand Canyon and Sedona – yes, they’re stunning – but this one is the most spectacular you’ll ever see. So, I challenge you to take in the beauty from your parking lot first before you walk to Moraine Lake. Don’t get too excited. Take your time, and drink in the views around you before meeting the Ten Peaks.

The Ten Peaks
How many peaks can you count? Count again because I only counted eight at first! Focus, and you’ll find the missing two! We arrived here mid-afternoon, and it was a bit cloudy. We waited until the clouds disappeared, and the peaks showed up in all their wondrous glory! And then, I had to retake all my photos. 😂

The water from Moraine Lake is from the glaciers surrounding it – that’s where it gets its turquoise color. But do you know that its color changes depending on the time of the day, weather, and season? There’s cobalt blue, melting grey, and chrome green.
You can find the Ten Peaks at the back of a 20-Canadian dollar bill. See and compare it!

On the other hand, if you want to get the BEST postcard-perfect scene of the lake, you’ve got to get up early and be here when the sun rises. The Peaks turn gold in contrast with its shadows and turquoise water. Can you imagine how glorious that would be?

Ancient Seas Once Covered This Place
Believe it or not, it’s true! With ginormous rock formations around you, you will find it difficult to believe this place was once a sea. And there was once a beach, too! Read the descriptions below.

It has been said that early artists who documented this place in their paintings were enthralled that they decided to stay.

That’s what I felt, and I wanted to stay a bit longer, if not forever.

But then, you know, you’re in the Canadian Rockies, and there are just too many places beckoning for you to visit. Too many places to see but too little time to spare.
Where to Stay near Moraine Lake
If you have the money to splurge, you must stay at a 4-star resort Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. It’s just 14 kilometers from here, so if you want to see the sunrise, this is the best place to stay. There are also hotels and AirBnB in the nearby town called Banff. You can book accommodations from Expedia or Booking.com. If you don’t drive, you can book your one-day tour here.
