Step on the running boards on the side and cling on to the pole.

It’s a different feeling to be traveling without seat belts!  Don’t sit on those benches—unless you are a senior citizen.

Don’t take photos on your first ride. Just enjoy it! On your way back, take as many photos as you can.

When these cable cars reach the terminal, the conductors (not just one) have to lift (imagine that!) them so the grip can grasp it and rotate it, before they’re ready for the next trip back.

Tips in riding the cable car:

Buy a day, 3-day or 7-day pass. One-way ticket costs $6, while a day pass costs $15/$23/$29. You can use the day pass to Muni subways, buses and street cars, too. So, it’s worth it.

Tips in riding the cable car:

Don’t take the cable car from its end and start terminal. The queue is too long and the driver will only allow less than 10 people to go in— leaving spaces for people in the next stops. Therefore, if you are a smart traveler, wait at the second stop (which is like a minute or two walk).
