Celina Jaitly and Cyndi Lauper at 2015 Toronto Pride Parade
This year, Toronto Pride Parade has three International Grand Marshalls: Pussy Riot from Russia, Celina Jaitly from India and Cyndi Lauper from the USA.
Celina Jaitly is a successful Bollywood actress who is very vocal in fighting LGBT rights in her native India where it is still a crime being gay. She is an ambassador of United Nations Free and Equal campaign which she collaborated with a heartwarming music video to support gay rights. You must see, The Welcome.

Ok, girl, I envy your hair. 😀
I called her, “Celina, over here! I want a selfie with you!” She heard me but she only waved at me. 🙁 It’s ok, girl, I forgave you. LOL…

This is the scond time I’ve seen Cyndi Lauper. The first time was at her mini-concert in 2010, during the Toronto Pride Celebration. Boy, she never aged! She’s been an ardent supporter of the LGBT community and she raises funds for homeless LGBT youth. Her song, True Colours, is kind of a gay anthem that every gay guy knows.
Well, I know the chorus only. Hehehehe…
She arrived as Marie Antoinette in her underwear to the delight of the crowd.
She’s still fun (Girls just wanna have fun, right?) after all these years. And I love that about her.
And oh, she actually rode in a float with a huge, red Kinky Boots. Aside from being an International Grand Marshall, she’s also in the city for the opening of the Kinky Boots musical which she composes and earned her a Tony Award for Best Score.
If you’re in town, watch the Kinky Boots Musical at the Royal Alexandra Theater on King Street, Toronto. I’ve seen the film while I was still living in China and I’ve seen the musical in New York— and I couldn’t get enough of it. So, I might go and see it again!
