Bangalore Pride Parade 2013
It’s raining rainbows (mostly umbrellas), if not men, at the Bangalore Pride Parade 2013! A fabulous friend of mine (who happens to be also a traveler) has recently attended the event and he got nothing to say but optimism and pride to demand equal rights for all LGBT communities in India. Escorted by some police officers, the parade went well, sharing the congested street with pubic transports of all sorts.
Homosexuality in India was decriminalized in July 2009 but discrimination is still prevalent around the country. What’s interesting to know is that transgenders were granted with voting rights in 1994 under “third sex” gender assignment — but such doesn’t spell equality for the LGBT.
There are rainbows everywhere!
And there is Pride in every marcher!
There is LOVE.
And there is Jesus, too!
There are free hugs.
And there are Super Queers!
There is one who is discreet.
And there are those who are out, loud and proud!
There are fighters.
And there are police officers.
There are those who spread “Love is Love…”
… and there is a beauty queen!
Thanks to Dhruv for these beautiful pictures at the Bangalore Pride Parade 2013!
